Ready-made puzzle and answer PDFs

Each puzzle PDF has four pages, one puzzle per page. Each separate answer PDF has one page with the four matching IDs. The A4 and Letter packs contain the same drawings.

Print at “Actual size” or 100%. The drawings are original to Puzzku. You may print and share these sheets for personal use or classroom activities; please keep the Puzzku credit.

How to solve a nonogram

  1. Read row clues from left to right, and column clues from top to bottom.
  2. Fill the stated runs in that order. Leave at least one empty cell between two runs.
  3. Mark cells you know are empty with an X. A single 0 clue means the whole line is empty.
  4. Carry each discovery into the crossing lines. Keep going until every cell is filled or marked empty.

For a five-cell row, the clue 2 2 uses every available cell: two filled, one empty, two filled. The gap is part of the reasoning.

2 2×
2 + 1 gap + 2 = 5 cells. A clue of 5 would fill the whole row.

Rule reference: University of Waterloo Computer Museum’s beginner handout. This collection uses its own drawings and sheets.

Choose just the sheets you need

Select one to four puzzles and download their matching answers separately. Each size contains four fixed drawings; changing the first puzzle rotates their order without repeating one inside the pack.

Selected IDs: N5-01, N5-02, N5-03, N5-04. The answer key uses the same IDs.

Printing for a group

Keep the answer PDF on a separate device or print it after the puzzle sheets. Start with one 5 × 5 sheet to explain runs and gaps, then offer a 10 × 10 sheet to anyone who wants more cells. This is a layout choice, not a promise about solving time or school grade level.

These sheets use black ink on white paper. Every puzzle has a unique solution, checked from its clues before the files are built. The eight puzzles can be solved by line deductions; that does not mean every player will find them easy.

Common questions

What do nonogram numbers mean?

They are the lengths of filled runs, in order. A 2 1 clue means two filled cells, at least one empty cell, then one filled cell. Extra empty cells may appear at the ends or between runs.

Are the answers in the same file as the puzzles?

No. Puzzle sheets and matching answer keys are separate PDFs. Match each sheet by its N5 or N10 puzzle ID. A four-puzzle pack has four puzzle pages and one answer page.

Do these puzzles have one solution?

Yes. Each of the eight drawings is checked from its row and column clues for a single solution. Each can also be completed by line deductions without trial-and-error guessing. Grid size is not a tested age or difficulty rating.

Does choosing different settings create new puzzles?

No. This is a finite collection of eight original drawings, four at each size. The picker changes the sheets, order and paper format; it does not invent an unlimited supply of new pictures.

Another kind of pencil puzzle?

Sudoku uses number-placement rules, mazes follow connected paths, and word searches hide a word list. Nonograms reveal a picture from run-length clues.
