How to solve a substitution cryptogram
- Keep the word spaces and punctuation. Every printed capital is a cipher letter.
- Write your proposed answer letter below it. Use that same answer every time the cipher letter appears.
- Different cipher letters represent different answer letters. In this collection, a letter never represents itself.
- Use the supplied hints, repeated letters and word patterns. Revise a guess if it creates a conflict elsewhere.
The blank alphabet area helps you record your key. It is a puzzle aid, not a secure encryption system.

A short message on each worksheet
Eight original sentences describe small everyday scenes. Each has writing space below its encoded letters, preserved spaces and punctuation, and a blank substitution table. Keep the answer file separate if you are printing for a class or a group.
Use six letter hints when introducing the rules, three for fewer starting clues, or zero for a sheet without revealed pairs. These are help settings, not tested difficulty levels. The fixed collection is C-01 through C-08; it does not pull new quotations from the web.
Choose sheets for your group
Choose one to four puzzle IDs, their order, and the paper size. Choose zero, three or six revealed letter pairs too. The same hint choice applies to every selected puzzle. This picker uses the fixed collection of 8 puzzles; it does not create an unlimited supply. Moving past the last ID wraps to the first.

Common questions
How does this letter substitution work?
Each answer letter is replaced by a different cipher letter. The replacement stays the same throughout one puzzle. Different answer letters use different cipher letters. Each puzzle has its own key.
Are these famous quotations?
No. The eight short sentences were written for this Puzzku collection. They are not attributed quotes or extracts from someone else’s work.
What is included in the answer file?
Each answer sheet uses the same C-01 to C-08 ID as its puzzle. It shows the decoded letters under the cipher letters and a complete cipher-to-answer alphabet key.
How many hints do the worksheets include?
The ready-made full packs give three correct letter pairs on each puzzle. The picker offers zero, three or six pairs. These settings change the help shown, not the hidden sentence or cipher key.
Is the English answer mathematically unique?
No uniqueness claim is made for short natural-language messages. Each sheet has one intended sentence and a consistent substitution key; a short cipher can sometimes admit other readings.
